‘Troublemaker’ kill 16 policemen in China

Two men embistieron on Monday, a group of policemen with a garbage truck and then threw explosives at their barracks in a likely terrorist attack that killed 16 players in the far northwest of China, said the official news agency Xinhua.

The action in the province of Xinjiang occurred four days before the start of the Beijing Games, an event which put on alert to security forces throughout the vast country and that at least one Muslim militia group decided to disrupt. Xinhua, which quoted the local police, described the assault as a “suspected terrorist attack”.

The agency said the action took place at 08:00 when the attackers, who he described as “troublemakers”, the truck fired at the policemen who did morning exercises on the outskirts of Yijin Hotel, near the frontier station in the city of Kashgar, which is guarded by paramilitary police.

After the truck collided with a pole of the electrical system, the two attackers dropped, threw explosives at the rustic huts and “also split the police with knives,” she said information

According to Xinhua, 14 policemen died on the spot and two on the way to hospital, while at least 16 others were wounded.
The police arrested the two attackers, one of whom was wounded in the leg, he added.

Local authorities declined to comment immediately. An official of the department of the district police said the case was investigated.
The attack was one of the most daring and deadly in recent years in the province of Xinjiang in Central Asia, where local Muslims have waged a rebellion with sporadic acts of violence against Chinese rule.
